Since the Beginning
REAL has been involved in the sport since the beginning. Riding since 1998 and teaching since 1999, our experience shows. We have taught over 10,000 lessons and camps over the past 9 seasons in the water and snow.

Custom Designed Programs
The REAL Lesson and Camp programs have been custom designed to maximize learning, fun and safety over the past 9 seasons. Our top level professional staff, the use of PWCs, and our discerning selection of private facilities to keep crowds to a minimum, have lead to a comprehensive instructional program that is unmatched by any other training facility in the world.

Due to the growth of the sport and worldwide interest in our programs, we often completely book out our Lesson and Camp capacity months in advance. We therefore recommend booking your instruction as far in advance as possible to guarantee space is available during the dates you would like to visit us.

20 Full Time Coaches
Our coaches are the reason so many people speak highly of REAL Watersports. From the beginning, we have developed a working environment where riders can devote their lives to kiteboarding and teaching kiteboarding, much like skiing and snowboard coaches in the snow industry. When we precede their names with "Full Time", this means that we teach 7 days a week, 2 sessions a day. Teaching YOU how to ride is their PRIORITY. You will not find egos, nor will find people trying to cancel your lesson so they can ride themselves. What you will find are 20 of the best rider/coaches in the world who are the friendliest, most professional people you will ever work with in an instructional environment.

Waterfront Lesson Center
Our waterfront REAL Lesson Center is located in the town of Waves in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. This state of the art facility has been built from scratch for the sole purpose of being the best kiteboarding center in the world. 3.5 acres of private, waterfront access at one of the best flat water riding venues in the world… "The Slick". This is like having a surfing house at Pipeline or a slope side condo at Snowbird. On this property, you'll find a keyhole shaped boat basin where we dock a fleet of 12 PWCs for "On the Fly" coaching and support once we hit the water. The REAL Lesson Center is a private facility for the sole use of our Lesson and Camp clients. This keeps crowds and clutter to an absolute minimum and allows you fully enjoy this truly spectacular kiteboarding location.

"On the Fly"
REAL Kiteboarding developed and perfected "On the Fly" during our 1999 and 2000 seasons. "On the Fly" is a coaching, support, and water safety program incorporating PWCs to keep coaches close to students while they are on the water. "On the Fly" allows riders to progress rapidly as they are always within earshot of their coach for further instruction, keeping their learning curve nearly vertical. When you get on the board and begin riding, "On the Fly" allows you to log months worth of mileage underneath your board in just one lesson. (Because you never have to worry about walking back upwind!) On the Fly teaches and encourages aggressive board riding and kite handling skills that can not be learned in any amount of time using "classic style water walking methods".

Exclusive Terrain
Learning to ride in a crowd is not fun and definitely not safe. Unfortunately, many kiteboarding schools are located at popular kiting and windsurfing beaches, making learning to kiteboard just as frightening as learning to ski on Presidents Day Weekend. This is a problem that we saw from the beginning and have addressed with huge success.

When you learn with REAL, you are guaranteed to be riding in wide open water. In Cape Hatteras, our teaching grounds are the Pamlico Sound, a waist deep body of water, 35 miles across. We launch from our private REAL Lesson Center beach, and ride stretches of water not accessible to the recreational rider. REAL is also the exclusive holder of a permit to use National Park Lands for the purpose of teaching kiteboarding. Not only does this permit indicate the level of professionalism and dedication to our programs, it also grants us access to beaches and waters populated by absolutely no riders whatsoever. Two Full Service Watersports Shops
We have two REAL Watersports Shops in Cape Hatteras to serve our clients. Both of these are completely stocked with the best kiteboarding, surfing and standup gear on the planet and are staffed entirely by stoked riders who hit the water every ride-able day. The REAL Flagship Store is located on-site at our REAL Lesson Center in the town of Waves and the 2nd (and original) shop is located in the town of Buxton, 25 minutes to the south of Waves. Our Waves Shop serves as a meeting place for our Lesson and Camp clients as well a perfect place for them to purchase gear to ride at home when they return as self-sufficient kiteboarders, surfers or standup paddle boarders. Our Buxton Shop is conveniently located near the popular riding venue of "KP" or Kite Point, and the "Southside" riding locations of Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras.
